Head shots: Eva Wilson

Last month I went to a little business expo down in Renton. I met Eva after parking along my way in. We chatted a bit and she actually followed up with me a few days later. We met up and chatted about what I do/she does and set up a little head shot session. Eva's working on a website and once it's up, I will send out a link in case you're looking for a book keeper extraordinaire! Here are a few of my faves from the session. Also, if you need any professional head shots or some goofy pics for social networking, drop me a line.

PM is for Paul Marie

A few months ago a long time friend of mine came to me with the need of some photography. He and his business partner are launching a new clothing company to be out in the first quarter of 2011 titled "Paul Marie". Below are some of my favorites from the shoot. Tomorrow, we will be doing another shoot for Paul Marie and my videographer Chris Wojcik, will be there to capture the story behind the scenes. We have some pretty wild shots planned involving roller skates so you won't want to miss it. I will also be doing a live Facebook/Twitter video update in the morning, shot, edited and uploaded all via my iPhone. If you aren't stalking me already I recommend it. Greetings: Britta Folden

I present to you the first of an ongoing series I will be posting on my blog, "Greetings". Greetings is a way for me to connect you with local businesses, artists and just plain people you should know. So, all my readers out there (Dad, Mom and cats...) say "Greetings" to Britta Folden.

Britta is my recently discovered cousin. I didn't grow up with her and only met her for the first time last fall. Since our first meeting, we quickly realized we have a lot in common. We both like good music (in our opinion), we both like design, photography, Ballard and good beer. We are also both small business owners. Britta is the owner of Queen B Quilts where her specialty is custom quilts made out of old/new t-shirts.

How can she be of use to you? She can take your t shirts that you earned from running all those 5k runs in the past and make them into a quilt of accomplishments. You know they just sit in the closet awaiting the light of day. She can take all your son's/daughter's t shirts from high school and turn them into a Mom/Dad's comfort blanket while they're away at college. She can do much more and I urge you to check out her website and see what she has to offer. Keep in mind, the holidays are just around the corner and custom presents are way cooler than gift cards!

Britta can be contacted at www.myqueenbquilts.com. Make sure to mention you heard about her work from me. It helps her know where she's getting her business from. You can also "like" her Facebook fan page here.

Last month I helped Britta out with some marketing by taking some photos of her and some of her friends enjoying the lovely quilt life. Here is what we turned out from the day.

5 Flat and Brown

Last week I had the pleasure of working with local hip hop duo 5 Flat & Brown. 5 Flat and I met at the Dice photo shoot I did last winter. He's a friend of Dice and helped shoot the behind the scenes video from the Dice shoot.

He came to me with the name of the album being "Tuition: The Mixtape". He had some great ideas and in the end we ended up with some great plans for the project. I'm doing the whole shabang for these guys from the photos to the design for the album. Part of our deal was I agreed to throw in some promo shots from the day since these fellas don't have any professional pics. I bring you those today.

We ended up having a really good time at the shoot and things went so well we ended up with a lot more photos than we planned for. My thoughts are, I would rather have them being used than sit on my computer, so I did some extras for these dudes.

I really dig the music these guys are making and look forward to hearing the final product. Check out a few tracks from their upcoming mixtape here. I will also be posting a behind the scenes video from the shoot in near future along with the final shots for the album.

For now, here are my favorite shots from the day. Let me know what you think about the feel of these.

Damned by the D3!

So as you read in my previous posts, I had the pleasure of borrowing a Nikon D3 from Jetta Productions. I got to take it home over the weekend and ended up shooting two events plus some good old cat/girlfriend test shots. I have to say, this camera is freaking awesome! It's not only this camera, most of the new cameras out there are pretty awesome. I shoot on a Nikon D200 but have been cursed by the beautiful images produced at high ISOs like 2200 on the D3. I say cursed because now I want a new camera after only a year of shooting on my D200. I usually try not to get caught up in the gear trends but being able to shoot in low light without flash is something very useful in the photography trade. Anyways, I just wanted to share a couple of shots I really liked of Priya (my girlfriend) and Bosh (our feline companion). These were both shot at 2200 ISO. They just have such an old school natural feel to them that I love. Saving starts now.

Oh yeah! I also started a fan page on Facebook for my work! Look over to the right and click "like" if you want to be cool like everyone else!

I'm Back.

Well, it's been over a month since my last post. At the end of May, I took a road trip down to Yosemite Park and the Redwoods in California. I really enjoyed being disconnected from everything. We we're gone for 8 days and I only had cell service for two travel days. It was great! The only downfall is, it's been really tough to get back into blogging and marketing. I'm trying to find a nice balance between work and enjoying life. I figure this would be a good post to just bring you up to speed with what I've been up to over the last couple of months. So, here we go. I had an amazing trip down to Yosemite National Park with my dad, brother and a bunch of my dad's friends. Here's a shot of my brother and I up on top of Yosemite Falls.

I have assisted Jetta Productions twice now on two separate Stock Photo Shoots. I never thought this would be of any interest but these shoots are a ton of fun and I have learned an incredible amount in the 5 days I have worked for these guys.

I was hired by ASI to shoot the Rock and Roll Marathon in Seattle WA. It was crazy! I had to get up at 3:30am and shot until 2pm. It was way more work than I anticipated but it was well worth it. I opened up a whole new avenue for work and actually had a great time shooting. It was pretty emotional watching people come thought the finish line. So many people had pictures of friends/family they had lost to Cancer. It was incredible to see people fighting for a cause and really pushing themselves to the limit.

I am training for my third STP ride coming up here in a couple of weeks. This year, I have really been training hard. I have gave up the booze for 6 weeks and have been averaging about 150 miles a week on my bike. I have also been doing spin classes and core training in between rides. It feels AMAZING to be getting stronger and increase my endurance. This year, my brother David will be joining me along with my Dad. Keep your fingers crossed for some sunshine.

Lastly, I have finally started to work on music again after a two year sabbatical. My buddy David (Positive ID) will be producing the whole project and it will be titled Positive Vibrations. We have 6 songs recorded and have been recording about 1 song a week. We're on track to get this thing finished up by Fall. I'm planning on doing a little show for the release after the release. If you haven't heard my first album, Walk With Me, go to www.josephaverage.bandcamp.com to download it for FREE!

Now that the fourth is over, let's all enjoy our long awaited summer!
